When you think about Spain, what’s the first thing that comes to mind? Going to Badajoz to buy towels and sweets? Spending the weekend eating tapas on the Plaza Mayor in Madrid? Or roasting in the sun in Benidorm in the middle of thousands of tourists?
Our neighbour Spain is huge and has absolutely incredible regions that most travellers from the Iberian Peninsula still haven’t discovered. If you want a different kind of getaway, the best strategy is to grab a quick flight, rent a car at the destination and head out on the road to explore the real local secrets.
Martin has put together an itinerary covering 3 Spanish regions that are perfect for a long-weekend road trip:
1. Cabo de Gata, Andalusia: The Wild “West” and Untouched Beaches 🌵
Forget the packed Algarve beaches and the queues for sun-loungers. Cabo de Gata Natural Park sits at the southern tip of Spain (you fly into Málaga or Almería) and it’s one of the most striking landscapes in Europe.
It has volcanic beaches with dark sand, coves of crystal-clear water you can only reach on foot, and a semi-desert landscape where epic cowboy films have been shot. Rent an SUV and lose yourself on the dirt tracks. It’s paradise for anyone who hates crowds.

2. Picos de Europa, Asturias: Cheese, Cider and Epic Mountains ⛰️
Think Spain is only heat and beaches? Think again. Fly into Santander, Bilbao or Asturias, pick up a rental car and climb up to Picos de Europa. The landscape looks like Switzerland, but with Iberian warmth (and prices).
You’ll drive through breathtaking gorges, see cows and goats wandering on the verge of the road and end your day in a mountain village eating fabada and drinking the famous Asturian cider poured from above.
3. Costa Brava, Catalonia: The Artists’ Refuge 🎨
North of Barcelona lies the Costa Brava. Instead of staying in the bustle of the city, pick up your car at the airport and head up the coast.
You’ll find picturesque fishing villages like Cadaqués (where the genius Salvador Dalí lived), calas (small coves) of turquoise water hidden among the pines, and twisty roads with brutal views over the Mediterranean. It’s the perfect road trip to impress your other half.
You’re Doing a Road Trip Out There… But What About Your Car at Home?
You’ve got the plan set up. Low-cost flight booked, car reservation confirmed in Spain and the playlist ready to play on the radio.
But there’s a small detail: you’re not driving your own car all the way over because the trip from Portugal would take days and isn’t worth it for a quick getaway. You’re flying. So where does your faithful car go while you’re out “cheating on it” with a Spanish rental?
You’re not going to leave it abandoned on some sketchy street near the airport, are you?
Make the smart move. Drive your car to airport Departures and hand us the key. The Multipark team takes responsibility for your machine and keeps it in our secure, monitored car park. And the usual bonus: if you want your car to also get some pampering while you’re away, we handle it. Thanks to our complementary services, we can give it a full wash, deep clean the interior or take care of that overdue check-up while you’re carving up the Spanish roads!
But wait, the service doesn’t stop there! Did you think we only helped you park in Portugal?
If you need a safe place to leave the rental car during your adventure, know that through our platform you can search for car parks on Multipark — we have the best partnerships in Spain. You leave your car here with us and we make sure you park the rental there with the same trust and the best conditions!
When you land back in Portugal, your car will be waiting for you at the terminal door, spotless and ready to take you home.

Run a simulation and book your Valet Parking on the Multipark website and head off to nuestros hermanos without a worry!
